Wed., June 21, Thurs., June 22 and Fri., June 23 (3 nights in Kotor, Montenegro) Our Adriatic Adventure begins with a sightseeing tour of Old Dubrovnik and time for a leisurely lunch or museum hoppng then a short journey to remote Montenegro famed for its mountains, palm trees and incredibly blue Adriatic Sea. Marvel at Kotor, an ancient Mediterranean port under the scenic cliffs of Lovcen and Orjen Mts. Kotor is famed for its old world arches, narrow streets, stone buildings and churches dating back centuries. It’s one of the best preserved medieval towns in the Adriatic and a UNESCO World Heritage site with three miles of ancient walls and walkways above the city to explore. Lonely Planet deemed Kotor the #1 place to visit in 2016! Our historic hotel is right in the heart of the old town with the Church of the Angels next door. We'll enjoy a guided tour of the winding byways including an icon filled church from 1170. Time to explore and visit antique shops, jewelry stores, the Maritime Museum & a Cats Museum, one of three in the world. Super ice cream! See old fishing villages on the Bay of Kotor and lovely Perast with its 16 Baroque palaces and stunning Venetian architecture. We hire a boat for a scenic ride to the Island of St. George to tour the 12th century monastery / museum and learn the legend of Our Lady of the Rocks. We offer an optional climb to the famed city walls. Then a thrilling ride to charming Cetinje, one time the capital of Montenegro, a 5,400 ft. over-look, to view the magical panorama of Boka Kotorska, ascend and descend 27 fantastic switchbacks to the Adriatic Sea.
Sat., June 24 and Sun., June 25 Mon., June 26, (3 nights in Kruje, Albania) Enjoy glimpses of Adriatic beaches as we head for Svati Stefan, the scenic island banked by huge mountains, photo opps everywhere. On to remote Albania, The Land of the Eagle. Dramatic scenery on the way. We'll dine Albanian style at a folkloric restaurant. Charming Kruje awaits. Tour the 5th century citadel/ castle and stroll the old market/bazaar set in the stone walls. Fantastic view from our hotel balconies.Learn about Albanian folk dress and folk culture in the famed ethnographic museum, the large 18th century home of a pasha.
Tues., June 27 and Wed., June 28 (2 nights in Berat, Albania) Dramatic mountain scenery in this remote region. The road to Berat is lined with mountains. The town is a UNESCO treasure and dubbed the City of a Thousand Windows with ancient homes spilling over the forested slopes under towering Mt Tomori. We'll have a sumptuous lamb feast in our castle hotel garden overlooking the town. Our guide will take us to explore 13th century Berat Castle, the Onufri icon museum and King's Mosque. Enjoy the national ethnographic museum and view the interior of a traditional Albanian home from 1800.
Thurs., June 29 and Fri., June 30 (2 nights in Ohrid, Macedonia) To magical Macedonia! Stroll the byways of lakeside Struga to enjoy the market street and pastry cafe. Ohrid is one of the oldest human settlements and is often called the Kingdom of Light & Water. Marvel at gorgeous Lake Ohrid, one of Europe's deepest lakes preserving 200 species. Ohrid is famed for having 360 churches/chapels – one for every day of the year! Lots of picturesque homes and glorious flowers in a tropical setting. Our guide will lead us to magnificent Sveti Naum Monastery dating from the 900s with icons everywhere and a photo opp - sit in a HelleniOur Adriatic Adventure tour ends stic amphitheater dating from 200 B.C. This is a great opportunity to buy charming handmade and very inexpensive jewelry featuring shells from Lake Ohrid. On to Samuil's Fortress and St. Sophia's Church with frescoes from the 11th century, then explore hidden flower-filled lanes and/or have lunch in a lovely garden. We’ll also enjoy an exhilarating boat ride on this magical lake. Our farewell dinner at our lakeside hotel will feature enthusiastic local musicians!
Sat., July 1 - Our Adriatic Adventure tour ends. Fly from Lublana or continue on to Bratislava with a night in Stara Pazova Serbia.
